Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies
More than 10,000 professionals are affiliated with the Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (VGCt). Together, we contribute to a mentally healthier Netherlands by applying scientifically proven, effective psychological treatment methods. These methods are based on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a proven effective treatment for many psychological problems such as anxiety, depression, and addiction.
We are responsible for registering and providing further training for post-bachelor’s and post-master’s professionals to become high-quality cognitive behavioural therapists, cognitive behavioural practitioners, and supervisors. In addition, we serve as a scientific knowledge centre and as a partner for relevant organisations by sharing our expertise and bridging scientific insights with professional practice and the content of VGCt-accredited training programmes.
The scientific insights of the VGCt can be applied by professionals not only in treatment practices but also in settings where early detection and prevention of mental health problems are the focus.
We offer our own quality registrations (post-bachelor’s and post-master’s), which provide a specialisation within the (BIG-registered) professions of our members, and we maintain our own quality mark. We help our members excel in their profession by organising continuing education through events, study days, and workshops. Furthermore, we represent the scientific and social interests of our members.
